Garcia said at the Buick Invitational that he might not play in the first World Golf Championship of the year, citing a travel schedule which took him from Hawaii to Abu Dhabi to San Diego in the first four weeks of the season. Clarke Jones, his agent at IMG, cited scheduling on Tuesday as the reason for Garcia not playing.

February 8, 2006Teenage rookie Morgan Pressel says fellow American Michelle Wie should have to qualify for the U.S. Women's Open instead of getting an exemption. Several veterans were outraged when Wie got a a special exemption to the U.S. Women's Open in 2004, although she tied for 13th to earn a trip back. Last year, Wie was tied for the lead going into the final round until closing with an 82 to tie for 23rd. Only the top 20 and ties are exempt the following year.

February 8, 2006Raymond Floyd and Dana Quigley won the Champions Skins Game on Monday, teaming to win 10 skins and a record $510,000 to beat defending champion Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson in the alternate-shot event. The 63-year-old Floyd holed an 8-foot birdie putt on No. 17 for nine skins and $410,000 to seal his record sixth Skins Game victory. He also made a 10-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole for another skin and $100,000.
Alleged armed robber disturbs golf tourney
February 8, 2006Golfers at the New South Wales amateur championship had to deal with a different type of hazard - a stolen truck crashed on to the course, forcing play to be suspended while police chased an armed man. The incident happened midway through Sunday's second round at Ryde-Parramatta Golf Club when a man who had allegedly held up a supermarket rammed through a fence and onto a fairway. Scattering players, he drove into a bunker before becoming stuck.
Rookie Holmes wins FBR by seven strokes

Holmes gained five shots on his nearest competitor on the 15th hole and walked away with a seven-stroke victory Sunday at the FBR Open, only his fourth tournament since joining the PGA Tour. The hard-driving 23-year-old golfer from Kentucky shot a 5-under-par 66 in the final round - 5-under 31 on the back nine - to finish at 21-under 263 and win $936,000.
