Reuters - They were fashionably late and delightfully retro. Taking the stage well after 10 p.m. Monday, Saint Etienne grooved before a sold-out crowd at Irving Plaza. The British pop ensemble, named for a French soccer team, was entirely festive and sweet on the first of a few short stops on its U.S. club tour, mixing '80s synth-pop and swinging '60s beats to create an evening of shimmering pop confections.
