Speaking for the first time since his longtime pal Proof was gunned down early Tuesday, Eminem released a statement Friday calling the fallen rapper the driving force behind Detroit hip-hop.

"You don't know where to begin when you lose somebody who's been such a big part of your life for so long. Proof and I were brothers," Eminem, who rapped alongside Proof in the group D12, said in the statement. "He pushed me to become who I am. Without Proof's guidance and encouragement there [would not have been] an Eminem.

"He inspired everyone around him. He can never, ever be replaced. He was, and always, will be, my best friend."

When it comes to Janet Jackson's music, she wants her fans to know she's still in "Control."

The wardrobe-malfunctioning superstar has put the kibosh on reports that some songs leaked online are tracks from her forthcoming album, tentatively titled 20 Years Old.

While Jackson admits that the songs making the Internet rounds, including one called "Put It On Me," are hers, she denies that they were ever earmarked for release on her new album.

"A couple of years ago I recorded some tracks with [music producer] Rich Harrison," Jackson said in a statement. "But none of that music will appear on my new album. I have a tight rein on all of the music that has been recorded."

But even though K-Fed erased the original song from the page when the controversy arose, he might not be able to erase the situation quite so easily.

The track that took shape a few weeks ago purportedly sampled "The Infamous" rapper Mobb Deep's song "Got it Twisted"--but the familiarity trail doesn't end there.
