Cameron's Court Victory
March 31, 2006
The battle over Cameron Diaz's bare breasts is over.
The "In Her Shoes" star is no doubt walking on air after a resounding victory in her lawsuit against a now imprisoned photographer. Diaz's publicist, Brad Cafarelli, confirmed Friday that a Los Angeles judge has awarded Diaz statutory damages in the case, which involved the illicit sale of topless photos and video taken of the actress more than a decade ago, before she was an A-lister.
In his ruling Thursday, the judge also dismissed a countersuit that the shutterbug, John Rutter, had brought against Diaz, accusing her of fraud and breach of contract. A further ruling is expected on whether Rutter must foot Diaz's legal bill.
Clooney Stalking Gawker
March 31, 2006
When Gawker.com introduced its map-enhanced celebrity sightings, several A-list publicists complained. George Clooney, on the other hand, got sneaky.
In an email sent by his rep to about 15 other publicists, Clooney called on the flacks to "flood" Gawker's virtual tip line with bogus star encounters to make the gossip site less clickable--or, as the Oscar-winner put it, "render these guys useless."
In a post Friday, Gawker responded to Clooney's subterfuge with much snark.
"So excited," the site said. "If there's anyone to take us down, throw us down, and render us useless, it's him. Seriously, we've been fantasizing about that s--t since 'ER'."
Search for MIA Kid Star
March 31, 2006
Every week or so, Detective Robbie Davis of the Bremerton, Washington, police department visits Joe Pichler's MySpace page. For a sign. For a clue. For a teenager lost.
"I'm just looking to see if he gets on it," says Davis. "Then I'm looking to see what they're saying."
They are the friends and family of Pichler, the former child actor who went missing nearly three months ago from his Northwest hometown. They leave messages. They extend birthday wishes. They post pictures of a long-ago summer that was just last year.
"What I'm seeing," Davis says, "is they're just as perplexed as I am. And some of them are starting to get upset."

Blake Shoots for Retrial
March 31, 2006
Robert Blake is putting a new spin on an old adage: If at first you don't succeed, get tried, tried again.
Lawyers for the actor are seeking a retrial in the wrongful death lawsuit that resulted in a $30 million judgment against the former "Baretta" star, arguing juror misconduct ran rampant in the civil court proceedings. And as if that weren't enough, they too fell back on a helpful maxim: If in doubt, blame O.J.
The Art of Britney Spears
March 31, 2006
For the first time since perhaps forever, Britney Spears is being taken seriously. All she had to do was lie pregnant, prone and naked on a bearskin rug.
"Monument to Pro-Life: The Birth of Sean Preston," a life-size statue of a buck-naked, bearskin-splayed Spears about to welcome her firstborn, is set to be displayed April 7-23 at Brooklyn's Capla Kesting Fine Art.
"It's really a sincere tribute to giving birth," artist Daniel Edwards said Monday. "That's really what it is."
Spears did not pose for the sculpture. She and her well-documented 2005 pregnancy merely inspired it.
