A year later, NASCAR south of the border doesn't feel so foreign
March 2, 2006This time around, the cry "Caballeros arranquen sus motores," Spanish for "Gentlemen start your engines," might not sound so foreign. A year after it held the first NASCAR race in Mexico, the Busch Series is south of the border again, preparing for Sunday's second installment of the Telcel-Motorola 200 without many of the concerns about security and logistics some teams raised before taking on the 2.518-mile Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez road course here in 2005.

Former champ Kenseth off to strong start
March 2, 2006Frustration was Matt Kenseth's nearly constant companion during the first three months of the 2005 season. While his four Roush Racing teammates were finding success in the early going, Kenseth was struggling. It took the 2003 NASCAR champion three races to register his first top 10 - an eighth place at Las Vegas - and the second top 10 didn't come until the 13th race, at Dover. His one and only victory, at Bristol, came in race No. 24. What a difference a year makes.
With Labonte, Pettys talking turnaround
March 2, 2006Kyle Petty's improbable recruiting effort finally paid off. For three years, Petty nagged Bobby Labonte to come drive the family team's famed No. 43 car. He'd stop Labonte on the streets of their subdivision in Trinity, N.C., where Petty jogs and Labonte rides his bicycle. They'd talk on airplane rides. One day, they ran into each other getting a bite to eat at Panera. Petty delivered the same plea every time: "Come drive that 43, man." Petty was joking - at least he thought he was.
