Kenseth sorry for causing Gordon's trouble
March 31, 2006Matt Kenseth is feeling lousy. A week after his contact with Jeff Gordon on the final lap at Bristol prompted Gordon to shove him on pit road in a dramatic departure from his carefully crafted good-guy image, Kenseth said he doesn't think Gordon should have been penalized at all. The four-time champion drew a $10,000 fine and probation through Aug. 30, a penalty that remained a hot topic in the garage at Martinsville Speedway on Friday. "The deal was my fault," Kenseth said before qualifying.
Hamlin is back home and on track to stardom
March 31, 2006Denny Hamlin arrived at Martinsville Speedway last fall as a young driver who had to prove he belonged among NASCAR's rising stars. He made it look easy. Hamlin qualified fifth and finished eighth. He raced seven times with Joe Gibbs Racing, making the most of the opportunity to secure a full-time ride for 2006. This weekend, he returns to NASCAR's oldest, shortest and perhaps trickiest track, a rookie of the year contender and one of the sport's bright new faces. The Chesterfield, Va.
