Nigeria defeated Senegal 1-0 Thursday night to finish third in the African Cup of Nations. Garba Lawal scored in the 79th minute as both teams used several players who had not been regular starters. Egypt and Ivory Coast play in the final Friday. Egypt beat Senegal 2-1 in the semifinals, and Ivory Coast defeated Nigeria 1-0.

Walter Pandiani scored in the final minute Thursday night, giving Espanyol a 2-1 victory over Deportivo de La Coruna in the first leg of the Spanish King's Cup semifinals. Pandiani scored after Luis Garcia's shot rebounded off teammate Ferran Corominas. Ruben Castro put Deportivo ahead when he converted a penalty kick in the fifth minute, and Garcia tied the score with a penalty kick in the 56th.
