NBC's Britney Oops

February 8, 2006

NBC is in the spin control zone thanks to its stunt casting of Britney Spears on "Will & Grace."

Earlier this week, NBC issued a press release touting Spears' guest appearance on the sitcom. Per the Peacock's PR department, Spears, would appear on the Apr. 13 episode playing a religious conservative TV personality who hosts a cooking show called "Cruci-fixin's."

Faster than you could say, "Oops, they did it again," NBC was facing a beef from the American Family Association, who claimed the network was mocking the crucifixion of Jesus.

NBC now says the initial press release was sent prematurely and the show would not contain any religious elements.

Simon's Sin City Search

February 8, 2006

And for his next trick, Simon Cowell will find yet another superstar.

"This is a show I've always wanted to make," Cowell said in a statement. "This time we're looking for everything. Personally, I hope to find the next Siegfried and Roy!"

The series, set to debut this summer, will feature singers, magicians, dancers, comedians and an array of novelty performances.

Britney Finds Religion

February 8, 2006

And thus it was that, for her next trick, Britney Spears got all theological.

In Hollywood, Spears, 24, will play a conservative Christian talk-show host on an upcoming "Will & Grace," NBC said. The episode is scheduled to air Apr. 13.

Meanwhile, in England, Spears' name has been invoked in a church debate posing the musical question, "What would Jesus say to Britney Spears?"

The pastor tells Britain's Evening Mail, the aim is to use the pop star's life as an object lesson: "We picked Britney because she's got what so many people want--beauty, fame and fortune. But she's still not happy."
