Bob Woodruff has probably never been so happy to leave the state of Maryland.
ABC's "World News Tonight" anchorman, critically injured six weeks ago by a roadside bomb while on assignment near Baghdad, is finally leaving the Bethesda, Maryland naval hospital where he has been recovering from broken bones and wounds to his chest, neck, face and head.
Woodruff, 44, underwent emergency surgery at a military hospital in Iraq and was heavily sedated for weeks after the Jan. 29 accident, but he recently has been making significant progress, talking and laughing with visitors and, of course, keeping up with current events.
