Networks: FCC, Reconsider

When the FCC slapped four major networks with millions of dollars in fines for indecency last month, ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox vowed they wouldn't take that punishment lying down.

And the networks and their affiliates, representing more than 800 stations, stood up as promised Friday, with each filing a number of appeals in various federal courts to counter the FCC's Mar. 15 rulings.

The network that took the brunt of the FCC's crackdown, CBS, is requesting that the government agency reconsider the $3.6 million fine it handed down for an episode of the missing person drama "Without a Trace" that depicted teens engaging in group sex.

Online gambling site Bodog.com announced Tuesday that it has suspended betting on who's going to be hoisting that million-dollar check when CBS's "Survivor: Panama--Exile Island" wraps up for the season. First, a string of $100 bets (Bodog's max for most entertainment-related wagers) for one contestant caught bookmakers' attention. Then a phone call from a "concerned citizen" mentioning a possible chink in the confidentiality chain prompted the odds-making moratorium.
